MSU is meeting Towson (25-10) for the first time in the CIT. The teams have split two previous meetings with MSU winning at home in 1979 and Towson winning at home in 1981. The Racers are 3-4 against current teams from the Colonial Athletic Association. The Tigers, like the Racers, went 13-3 in league play and finished second. Both the Racers and Tigers lost in their c onference tournament semifinals, thus opening the opportunity to play in the CIT.
The Racers have scored a road win at Missouri State and a home win over Omaha, while Towson has won back-to-back road games at USC Upstate and at East Tennessee.
After coming home for their first game in almost a month, the Racers beat UNO for their 12th straight home win. MSU is 14-1 at home this season with the one loss coming to Middle Tennessee (Nov. 26).
The games at home this week mark the first post-season games for the Racers at home since 1983 when Wake Forest visited old Racer Arena. MSU is playing in the CIT for the first time and Thursday's game marks MSU's 30th all-time post-season game in their 23rd all-time appearance. MSU has 15 trips to the NCAA Tournament, seven to the NIT and now one to the CIT. The Racers are 4-3 in post-season games since 2010 which includes two wins in the NCAA's and two in the CIT.
The Racers' string of five-straight 20-win seasons is the first in MSU history that spans 89 years. Billy Kennedy's teams were 31-5 and 23-9 in 2009-10 and 2010-11. Steve Prohm's first two teams went 31-2 in 2011-12 and 20-11 in 2012-13. In the last five seasons, the Racers are 126-37 (.773) and have averaged 25 wins per season. Steve Prohm has guided his program into it's second post-season in three seasons with the Racers.
