The Racers are in the lower OVC bracket as the No. 2 seed and will be playing in their 40th semifinal game when they play Friday night in the 9 p.m. tip. The Racers are 25-14 all-time in semifinal games and have won 3-of-4. If the Racers can make it to Saturday's championship game, they'll be making their 26th appearance and seeking their 16th title and trip to the NCAA Tournament. In the last two OVC Tournaments, the No. 1 & No. 2 seeds have met for the title. In 2012, The Racers were No. 1 and beat TSU No. 2 in the championship game. Last season, Belmont was the top seed and beat the No. 2 seeded Racers.
Murray State's Cameron Payne and Jarvis Williams earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors Tuesday in voting by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Payne was named the OVC Freshman of the Year and All-OVC First Team while Williams was named All-OVC Second Team. Both were also selected for the All-OVC Newcomer Team. Payne is the third for MSU and follows former Racer Freshman of the Year winners Ivan Aska (2009) and Isaiah Canaan (2010). This marks the sixth straight season that the Racers had have at least two players named All-OVC.
The Racers are coming off an epic season-ender (March 1) when they played at Southeast Missouri and suffered an 118-115 defeat in double overtime. The Racers were looking to share the OVC title with Belmont, but the loss made MSU 13-3, while Belmont beat Jacksonville to finish 14-2.
MSU had an incredibly tough pre-conference schedule against the likes of Valparaiso, Auburn, Middle Tennessee, Saint Mary's, Wester Kentucky and Dayton. They've improved much since and now try to the big prize this weekend in Nashville.
