As one of the hottest teams in the nation, the Murray State Racers go back to work Saturday when they host the Tennessee State Tigers in the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. when the Racers (14-4, 0-4) go for their 13th straight win and to stay perfect in the early going of the race for the Ohio Valley Conference championship.
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 24th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis. The game will also be offered free in online streaming video on OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
The Racers (14-4, 4-0) have the nation's third longest winning streak at 11-straight behind only Kentucky and Virginia who have each started the season 16-0. Stephen F. Austin also has won 12 straight. MSU's opponent next week, Eastern Illinois, also appears on the current winning streak count with eight straight. The Racers' longest win streak came in the 2011-12 season when MSU went 23-0 to start the season.
MSU is coming off an impressive home win Thursday when they took down Belmont 92-77 on the strength of six players in double-figure scoring. The win pushed MSU's home win streak to seven straight since their season-opening loss to Houston. The Racers enjoy one of the best home-court advantages in the nation and are 203-34 (.768) in their 17th season. MSU is 46-7 at home in the Head Coach Steve Prohm era.
Tennessee State (3-16, 0-4) is coming off two close defeats: 69-68 Thursday at Austin Peay and 45-38 at SIUE (Jan. 10). The Racers have won four straight since the last loss to TSU, when the Tigers stopped MSU's 23-0 start in 2012. The Racers lead the all-time series 50-16 and are 27-6 at home.
The Racers are also well on their way to a 28th straight winning season. The Racers came into the season trailing only Syracuse, Kansas and Arizona in this stat. MSU's remarkable run of winning seasons has been accomplished by seven different coaches.Â
The Racers hit the road after the TSU game with challenges at EIU (Jan. 22) and SIUE (Jan. 24).
