With one of the best winning streaks in the nation at 13 straight, the Murray State Racers try to keep their five-game road win streak alive with a pair of games in the Prairie State. The Racers travel to Charleston, Ill., Thursday for a game against the Eastern Illinois Panthers. The game presents a clash of the only undefeated teams in the Ohio Valley Conference. MSU (15-4) is 5-0 and EIU (12-6) is 6-0. The 8 p.m. tip at Lantz Arena is televised on the CBS Sports Network.Â
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 24th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis.
The Racers have the nation's third longest winning streak at 13-straight behind only Kentucky and Virginia who have each started the season 17-0. Stephen F. Austin also has won 12 straight. MSU's opponent next week, Eastern Illinois, also appears on the current winning streak count with eight straight. The Racers' longest win streak came in the 2011-12 season when MSU went 23-0 to start the season.
MSU's five-game road win streak also ranks high on the current list. After their wins at Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State over the weekend, EIU has also won five straight road games. National leader BYU was tripped up at Saint Mary's ending their seven-game run.
In their current blitz of winning, the Racers have scored back-to-back 90-point games with home wins over Belmont and Tennessee State. These are the first back-to-back 90+ games for MSU since last season in road games at Belmont and Austin Peay.
The Racers are also well on their way to a 28th straight winning season. The Racers came into the season trailing only Syracuse, Kansas and Arizona in this stat. MSU's remarkable run of winning seasons has been accomplished by seven different coaches. MSU can clinch No. 28 with a win at Eastern Illinois.
After Thursday's game at Eastern Illinois, the Racers travel to SIUE for a 7 p.m. game Saturday. MSU returns home (Jan. 29) to host Eastern Kentucky in an 8 p.m. tip on ESPNU.
