The Murray State Racers return home to the CFSB Center for three games starting Thursday with the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. Original members of the Ohio Valley Conference, the Racers and Colonels have been battling since 1934 and this is meeting is their 158th meeting.Â
Tip time on ESPNU is set for 8:05 p.m. with Chris Hassel and Malcolm Huckaby calling the action from their studio in Bristol, Conn. Streaming online video is on ESPN3. All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 24th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis. The game also marks BE BOLD WEAR Gold night at the CFSB Center
The Racers (17-4, 7-0) have the third longest current win streak in NCAA D-I with 15 after road wins last week at Eastern Illinois and SIUE. The Racers are also looking to extend their home win streak that stands at eight. MSU's 15-game run has reminded fans of the 23-0 start they experienced in Coach Steve Prohm's rookie season in 2011-12. That run still stands as the best in MSU and OVC history.
Cameron Payne is poised to become the 41st and second fastest player to join the MSU 1000-Point Club. Payne is 24 points shy of the mark and will be playing his 56th game. De'Teri Mayes set the record of the fastest in 1998 when he did it in 48 games.
Coach Steve Prohm is on the doorstep of 100 career wins and his fourth-straight 20-win season which has never been accomplished at MSU. The Racers are close to extending their 20-win season streak to six. Â When they get there, Prohm will have four and former Coach Billy Kennedy will have the first two in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons before he became the head coach at Texas A&M. MSU has never have five straight 20-win seasons, much less what would be six this season.
The Racers have clinched their 28th straight winning season. The Racers came into the season trailing only Syracuse, Kansas and Arizona in this stat. MSU's remarkable run of winning seasons has been accomplished by seven different coaches.Â
After the EKU game, the Racers remain at the friendly confines of The Bank Saturday when they host UT Martin at 7 p.m. and Feb. 5 against Southeast Missouri.
