The Racers (18-4, 8-0) came from five points down with under two minutes to play Thursday and outscored Eastern Kentucky
15-8 in overtime to post an 85-78 victory. The Skayhawks (13-7, 5-2) come into the game trailing MSU by two games in the OVC West Division at the halfway mark of the league race. UTM has won 4-of-5 games after an 81-51 win at home Thursday against Eastern Illinois.
Cameron Payne is poised to become the 41st and second fastest player to join the MSU 1000-Point Club. Payne is three points shy of the mark and will be playing his 56th game. De'Teri Mayes set the record of the fastest in 1998 when he did it in 48 games.
Coach Steve Prohm is on the doorstep of 100 career wins and his fourth-straight 20-win season which has never been accomplished at MSU. The Racers are close to extending their 20-win season streak to six. When they get there, Prohm will have four and former Coach Billy Kennedy will have the first two in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons before he became the head coach at Texas A&M. MSU has never have five straight 20-win seasons, much less what would be six this season.
The Racers have clinched their 28th straight winning season. The Racers came into the season trailing only Syracuse, Kansas and Arizona in this stat. MSU's remarkable run of winning seasons has been accomplished by seven different coaches.
The Racers stay at home as they host SEMO Thursday before traveling to face Austin Peay (Feb. 7).
