The Murray State Racers continue their three-game road swing at the start of the Ohio Valley Conference season when they play Thursday and Sunday at Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State. The game at Tech tips at 7:30 p.m. at the Eblen Center in Cookeville Tenn., after the MSU women's team plays TTU at 5:30 p.m. Â All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 24th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis. Free online video streaming is available at OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
If the Racers are to keep their streak alive, they'll have to beat the final two OVC teams that are undefeated at home. TTU and JSU are each 6-0 on their home court this season.
The Racers (11-4, 1-0 OVC) scored their ninth-straight win Saturday 66-57 at Morehead State. The Racers' streak started with a win in Nashville at the Challenge In Music City over Drake. MSU kept it going with an undefeated December and started 2015 with a win over Morehead.
The battle at Tech matches the Racers against the team they've played more than any other. This will be their 172 meeting. MSU leads the all-time series 124-47 and 45-37 in Cookeville. MSU has won the last five meetings and 10 of the last 11. The Racers are making their first trip to the Eblen Center since 2013. They've won four straight at TTU since their last loss there in 2009. Overall, MSU has won five straight against the Golden Eagles since a loss in the OVC Tournament semifinals in 2011.
MSU's current nine-game win streak is the longest for the Racers since that historic 23-0 start to the 2011-12 season when the Racers became the final undefeated team in NCAA D-I. If MSU can win its 10th straight, Coach Steve Prohm will join Mark Gottfried, Steve Newton, Harlan Hodges and Carlisle Cutchin as the only MSU coaches to have two 10+ winning streaks. The Racers are looking for the program's 19th all-time win streak of 10 or more.Â
Junior Jeffery Moss was nominated for OVC Player of the Week after he fired 68 percent from the field in two Racer wins (13-of-19) and 55 percent from 3-point range (5-of-9). He also averaged 4.5 rebounds and two steals. In the win at Morehead State, Moss led the Racers with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
Moss, Cameron Payne and Jarvis Williams are all closing on 1,000 career points. Payne has 839, Moss sits at 744, while Williams has 736.
