This Week
Murray State looks to open the conference slate with its third consecutive road victory. The Racers face Eastern Kentucky at 1 p.m. central time Saturday. MSU has won its last three contests against the Colonels, but has won just once in the last four matches to Richmond.
Last Week
The Racers opened conference play with a pair of sweeps last weekend. MSU defeated Southeast Missouri in the OVC-opener, and followed up Saturday with a victory over UT Martin. Scottie Ingram led the Racer attack averaging 5.17 kills per set. Sam Bedard averaged 12 assists per set from her setter position and was named OVC Setter of the Week for the fourth time this year.
Miss 1,000
Taylor Olden became just the 11th member in program history of the 1,000-kill last Friday against SEMO. Olden now has 1,005 career kills and is just 16 away from breaking into the top-10 all-time at Murray State.
Upcoming Milestones
Libero Ellie Lorenz needs just 40 more digs to reach 1,000 for her career, which would make her the 16th member of the 1,000-dig club at MSU. Meanwhile, Sam Bedard is 90 digs from 1,000 and needs 349 assists to move into fourth-place on the all-time career assists list. Alyssa Lelm is eight blocks shy of moving into fourth on the all-time total blocks list for the Racers and needs 12 blocking assists to move into fourth on that list as well.
Out of the Gate
The Racers' 12-1 mark to the start of the season is the best 13-match record to begin a season in program history. The 2006 squad began the year 11-2 and previously held that distinction.
Scouting Eastern Kentucky
The Colonels are led offensively by Celina Sanks' 162 kills and 2.53 kills per set. Rachel Vick is second on the team with 125 kills and leads the squad with a .219 attack percentage. Johanna Boyer leads the team with 380 assists and is second on the team with nine aces. Cassie Knutson leads the Colonels with 13 aces and is second with 166 assists. As a team, EKU is hitting .131 on the season. Ciera Koons leads the team with 46 total blocks in 2015. EKU lost a pair of 2014 All-OVC performers to graduation in Alexis Plagens and 2014 OVC Defensive Player of the Year Dena Ott. The Colonels are led by Head Coach Lori Duncan who is in her 18th season leading the team.
