This Weekend
The Racers look to remain atop the OVC standings as they put their perfect conference mark on the line as second-place Belmont and third-place Tennessee State come to town for a pair of pivotal OVC matchups.
Last Weekend
Murray State pushed its record to 6-0 in league play, all via sweeps, as the Racers defeated Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville. Kristen Besselsen led MSU with 16 and 14 kills, respectively in the two wins. As a team, the Racers hit .281 against the Panthers and .276 against the Cougars.
1,000 and Counting
Libero Ellie Lorenz became the 16th member of the 1,000-dig club at MSU last weekend in the win against Eastern Illinois. Lorenz now has 1,015 digs overall in her career.
Streaks on the Line
The Racers will look to continue a pair of impressive winning streaks this weekend as they have won 14 consecutive home matches dating back to last season, and have won 13 straight matches overall this year. With a win against Belmont, MSU will tie the program record for most consecutive wins at 14, a mark that was set back in the 2002 season. A 15th-straight home win would break the program record for most consecutive home wins set across the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
Bedard Wins Setter of the Week….Again
For the fifth time this season, setter Sam Bedard was named the ADIDAS OVC Setter of the Week for her performance last week in MSU's three wins. Bedard recorded an OVC-best 12.8 assists per set in the Racers' three sweeps last week. Bedard was the catalyst for an offense that hit .280 overall for the week and she also had a team-high four service aces throughout the week.
Scouting Belmont
The Bruins enter the weekend just a game behind the Racers for the top spot in the OVC standings. Belmont is led by 2014 OVC Freshman of the Year, Arianna Person's 252 kills, which ranks fifth in the conference. Emma Price is third in the league averaging 9.64 assists per set. As a team, the Bruins are hitting .169. Defensively, Person's 3.18 digs per set leads the team and at the net, Alexa Nichols' 55 total blocks are a team high. Belmont is led by second-year head coach Tony Howell.
Scouting Tennessee State
Tennessee State is led by Chloe Watson's 254 kills and Haley Hampton's .261 attack percentage. Libero Madison Halterman leads the OVC averaging 4.64 digs per set, while Samantha Beltran's 9.21 assists per rank fourth in the league. The Tigers have two players with 20 or more service aces, as Beltran and Watson lead the team with 26 and 24 aces, respectively. TSU is led by Head Coach Kathy Bullock, who is in her 12th season.
Light Up the Night and Tacos
MSU Fans are asked to wear white to the match against Belmont Friday night. The first 300 students at the contest wearing white will also receive free tacos. Glowsticks will also be involved as part of a light show for the match.
