Racers' Record Win Streak Snapped at EIU

The Murray State volleyball team's historic 16-match winning streak was snapped Saturday night on the road in Charleston, Ill., as Eastern Illinois was able to down the Racers in a five-set thriller in Lantz Arena. After dropping the first set, MSU (19-2, 9-1 OVC) was able to respond to win sets two and three, but were unable to close-out the Panthers (13-11, 8-2 OVC) in either the fourth or fifth set.
Scottie Ingram led the Racers with 19 kills and a .302 hitting percentage in the loss. Ingram also tied a career-high with 23 digs in the match. Taylor Olden and Kristen Besselsen added 19 and 18 kills, respectively. Besselsen and Olden also recorded double-doubles on the night, tallying 16 digs and 14 digs, respectively. Ellie Lorenz led the Racers with a career-best 32 digs.
Alyssa Lelm added nine kills and led the Racers with two solo blocks and four block assists. Sam Bedard added 63 assists, 15 digs and a service ace in the contest. With the 15 digs, Bedard becomes the 17th member of the 1,000-dig club in MSU history. As a team, MSU hit .119 and EIU hit .125 overall. The Panthers also out-blocked MSU 20-11.
The Racers remain atop the OVC standings despite the loss and will continue their four-match road trip next weekend when they will head to face Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech.
