Tennis Shows Promise at Steve Baras Invitational

The Murray State women's tennis team competed at the Steve Baras Invitational over the weekend in Chattanooga,
As a team, the women went 8-6 in singles matches and 4-4 in doubles matches.
The Racers saw impressive performances out of Alina Schibol and Suzaan Stoltz who won both of their singles matches. Schibol won her first match 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8) and her second 6-1, 7-6 (7). Stoltz won her first match 6-7(6), 6-4, 1-0 (8) and her second 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8).
Jeanne Masson, Haily Morgan, Erin Patton, and Amina Hadzic split their singles matches. Masson lost her first match 4-6, 2-6, but won her second 9-8 (5). Morgan's scores were 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 in her winning match and 5-7, 4-6 in the match she lost. Patton lost her first match 2-6, 3-6 but won her second match 8-2. Hadzic lost a match 2-6, 5-7 and won another 8-5.
Meagan Blue could not find her stride as she was defeated in both of her singles matches 5-7, 2-6 and 5-8.
In the doubles matches, each pair split their matches.The pair of Morgan/Patton lost 6-1 but won their second match 6-3. Hadzic/Blue lost their first match to Mississippi 6-7 (6) but won their second against Kennesaw State (4-6). Schibol/Masson won their first match 6-0 but lost their second 1-6.Stoltz was paired with a player from Kennesaw State. The pair lost their first match 0-6 but won their second 6-4.
Overall, head coach Jorge Caetano thought his team played very well.
"We saw a lot of positive things this weekend and they have improved so much from the previous tournament," Caetano said. "It is still very early in the season but our confidence level is getting higher every match we play."
The next tournament for the Racers will be the Arkansas State Invitational on November 6.
