Racers Power Past Middle Tennessee

The Murray State Racers powered through the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders for a 76-65 win Tuesday at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.

The Racers moved to 2-0 as they head out on the road for a four-game road swing that takes them to Georgia Friday and to the Gulf Coast Showcase in Florida Thanksgiving week.
Â
Jeffery Moss led a quartet of double-figure scorers with 19 points, with 15 from Wayne Langston and 10 each from Damarcus Croaker and Chad Culbreath.

In the first half, the Racers had a 7-0 run in 1:22 highlighted by a Bryce Jones 3-pointer for a 26-20 lead at the 6:14 mark. Moss hit a long two pointer with 1:21 left for a 37-28 lead.

The Racers went into the half in front 37-30.

Culbreath, a freshman, gave the Racers a spark off the bench and his assist to Langston for a six-point lead early in the second half was of the behind-the-back variety. Culbreath added a pair of high-flying layups to give MSU its largest lead of the game of 13 points at the 13:57 mark.

With MTSU pressing into the Racers' lead late, Croaker scored a pair of baskets, the last a baseline dunk that put MSU in front 70-60 with 2:40 left.

The Racers brought it home from there to push their home win streak to 17.

MSU hits the road for a Friday 6 p.m. CT game in Athens against the Georgia Bulldogs.

The win for the Racers pushes their current home win streak to 17 since their last loss to Houston on 11-14-14.The Racers' next home game is against Alabama A&M Nov. 28. . The Racers have been especially good at home since 2011. They're now 57-7.

Murray State now leads the all-time series with MTSU 104-34 and 53-12 at home.

In an amazing happening that you don't see every day in the game, the Racers held MTSU to no offensive rebounds in the second half tonight.

The Racers committed 14 turnovers and MTSU 15, but MSU made the best of it. MSU outscored MTSU 23-10 in points off turnovers.

When MSU plays at Georgia on Friday, it will be just the second time the Bulldogs and Racers have played. The first was in the 2002 NCAA Tournament in Chicago. Apart of the usual online audio available through Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com, streaming video will be provided by SEC Network Plus.
