Racers Set for OVC Indoor Championship

The Murray State track and field team travels to Charleston, Illinois for the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships, hosted by Eastern Illinois at Lantz Fieldhouse. The championship will take place both Friday and Saturday.Â

The two-day event kicks off on Fri. at 9 a.m. with the first leg of the pentathlon, the 60m hurdles. The first day will consist of finals for four events including the high jump, long jump, weight throw, distance medley relay and 5000m run. All other events will be trials and prelims (if needed). Saturday's events will begin at 9 a.m. against with the heptathlon.

Five Racers go into the weekend ranked in the top five of the OVC in their respective categories. LaShea Shaw is third in the 60m hurdles when she finished in 8.62 at the SIU Invitational. Emma Gilmore, who broke the school record for the mile, sits in fifth with her time of 4:56.65. Vallery Korir is ranked fourth with her personal best time of 17:19.01 in the 5000m. Ashley Conway found her way to fifth with a long jump distance of 18'9" (5.71m). Tonia Pratt is ranked in two categories, including second in the weight throw with a school record distance of 64'3" (19.58m) and fourth in shot put with a distance of 46'2.75" (14.09m).

The 4x400 team ranks fifth with their time of 3:55.64, while the distance medley relay team ranks second with 12:11.33.

Tennessee State comes into the Championship as last year's winner. Murray State is looking for its first indoor title since 1992.Â
