Racers Sweep Redhawks for first OVC Victory

The Murray State women's tennis team took their first conference win of the 2015 season with a 7-0 victory over Southeast Missouri on Sunday at Purcell Courts in Murray, Kentucky. In the last 20 meetings between the two teams, MSU has won all 20 matches. Murray State has improved to 7-2, 1-0 OVC, while SEMO fell to 1-10, 1-1 OVC.

Andrea Eskauriatza and Erin Patton defeated Viviana Ortiz and M. Montenegro on court two 8-0. Megan Blue and Nancy Karaky helped clinch the doubles point by defeating Annisa Warasanti and Anna Makhneva 7-1 on court three. Eleonore Tchakarova and Verginie Tchakarova were leading 5-3 when Blue and Karaky clinched the doubles point.

Eleonore Tchakarova was off to a quick start during singles and took the first singles point 6-0,6-0 on court two. Nancy Karaky took the second singles point for the Racers 6-0, 6-2. After a hard fought first set of winning 6-4, Eskauriatza took the second set 6-1 to give the Racers their first conference win. Continuing to add to the Racer victory was Vasileva who defeated Makhenva 6-2, 6-0, just before Blue defeated Ortiz 6-1, 6-0. Patton and Warasanti fought hard in both sets, but Patton took the victory 6-4, 6-1.
"The girls did an amazing job today," said head coach Jorge Caetano, "I was concerned since we haven't played a match in a month, but that is why they are such a special group of young girls. They went out there and took care of business and I am very proud of them."
"We have a tough week ahead of us," Caetano said, "we have four matches in the next six days so this match is going to help give us a lot of momentum going into the next few matches."

MSU will continue their OVC play on Tuesday against Austin Peay at 10:30 a.m. at Purcell Courts.
