Murray State women's tennis team defeated Eastern Kentucky 5-2 Friday at Purcell Courts in Murray, Kentucky. The win came after a long fought battle between the two teams and the weather.
The doubles teams fought to gain the advantage over the Colonels. Megan Blue and Alena Vasileva quickly won 8-1 on court three. On court one and two, MSU was fighting hard against a strong Eastern Kentucky team. Andrea Eskauriatza and Erin Patton won 8-6 on court two to clinch the doubles point for the Racers.
Verginie Tchakarova started the Racers off strong in singles and took the first singles point 6-0, 6-1. Karaky was not far behind when she finished 6-2, 6-1. Eleonore Tchakarova lost on her court and Eastern Kentucky took their first point of the match. Vasileva clinched the victory for MSU when she won 7-6 )7-4), 6-0 on court five. There was a small delay due to weather but after coming back Eskauriatza defeated Amandaline Faouzi 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 and Megan Blue fell during the tiebreaker.
The Racers continue their home stand against Morehead State Saturday at Purcell Courts starting at 11 a.m.
