This Weekend's Action
Murray State returns home to Murray this weekend to a slightly altered schedule. The Racers will still play a doubleheader Saturday against Eastern Kentucky at 1 p.m., but the doubleheader against Morehead State has been moved to Sunday, also at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out
Murray State dropped both games of Sunday's doubleheader at Eastern Illinois, but bounced back on Monday with a win to avoid the sweep. In game one on Sunday, Murray State ran into a rare offensive drought, only pushing across one run on six hits while stranding eight runners. In the second game, the Racers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, only to have EIU answer with seven straight runs for the win.
On Monday, Murray State was finally able to put all together and take down the Panthers, 4-0, on the back of a CheyAnne Gaskey complete game shutout. Jocelynn Rodgers led the Racers on the week with a .600 average by going 6-for-10 with a double and three RBIs.

Series History vs. EKU
Since beginning the series in 2010, Murray State and Eastern Kentucky have been fairly evenly matched, with the Racers holding a slight 9-7 advantage. MSU is 2-3 all-time against EKU in Murray, 4-4 in Richmond and 3-0 at neutral sites. Last season, the Colonels took both game of a doubleheader at their place in the regular season, but the Racers had the last laugh by posting a 7-6 come from behind win at last season.
Scouting The Colonels
After dropping a doubleheader to Morehead State last weekend, EKU bounced back with a win in the series finale against the Eagles and a mid-week at Miami (Ohio). Now having won four of its last six games, Eastern Kentucky stands at 15-18 on the year and 5-4 in the OVC.
The Colonels currently sport a team batting average of .264 and a team ERA of 3.55. At plate, Sarah Fobbs leads the way with a .337 average five doubles, 20 RBIs and a team-high six home runs. On the rubber, strikeout artist Leanna Pittsenbarger returns for her senior season and is currently 7-7 with a 4.00 ERA and 90 strikeouts.
Series History vs. Morehead State
Murray State and Morehead State have played 11 times previous, with the Racers winning seven of the meetings. MSU is 3-2 against the Eagles in both Murray and Morehead and 1-0 at neutral sites. Last season, the two teams split a doubleheader in Morehead, dropping a 1-0 decision in the opener, but bouncing back with a 5-1 win.
Scouting The Eagles
Morehead State has won three of their last five games, taking two of three at Eastern Kentucky last weekend and splitting a home doubleheader with Cleveland State on Tuesday. Currently, the Eagles are 12-14 overall on the year and 3-4 in OVC play.
As a team, Morehead State is hitting .272, while opponents are hitting just a smidge lower at .271. In the circle, the Eagles have a 4.42 team ERA with 114 strikeouts, while opponents have posted 3.22 ERA with 165 strikeouts. Leading the offense for Morehead State is Kayla McGuffey with a .378 average to go along with 14 runs and a team-high 11 stolen bases. In the circle, Mackenzie Grossman leads the way at 7-5 with a 3.10 ERA, 56 strikeouts and 13 starts in 21 appearances.
Strike Force
CheyAnne Gaskey fanned six batters Monday at EIU to surpass Shelby Kosmecki and become the school's all-time strikeout leader with 426. Already the school's, all-time wins and saves leader, she is on track to become the first-ever Racer pitcher to reach the 50-win plateau, as she currently had 46.
Keeping It Fresh
Through 30 games this season, head coach Kara Amundson has kept opponents guessing with her lineup, using 15 different variations. The most any one lineup has been used is four times, with seven of the batting orders being used only once.
Racer RPI
Murray State dropped 20 spots in the latest RPI, after dropping two to EIU, falling from 103 to 123. However, Murray State is still the third-highest team in the OVC behind SIUE (36) and Jacksonville State (74).
Double Down
Murray State continues to lead the nation in double plays per game at 0.73 with 22 in 30 games. The 22 turned is now the most in program history with over 20 games left to play. Last season, Utah led the nation in double plays and double plays per game at 46 and 0.84, respectively.
Double Up
With four doubles in her last four games, Alexa Becker is now the school's all-time leaders in two-baggers with 30. However, hot on her trail is teammate, and junior, Shelbey Miller. Miller is currently tied with former Racer Casey Castile at 27 doubles in second place. Becker and Miller are also 1-2 in all-time triples with five and four, respectively.
Next Up
The Racers return to mid-week action Wednesday, when they travel to Bowling Green for a doubleheader with in-state rival Western Kentucky. First pitch at the WKU Softball Complex is scheduled for 4 p.m.
