Conway, Track Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors
7/22/2015 3:36:00 PM | Women's Track and Field
Ashley Conway and the Murray State women's track & field team as a whole were recently honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their academic prowess during the 2014-15 season.
Conway was named as an All-Academic Individual after achieving a GPA of at least 3.25 and advancing to an NCAA regional. The Racer track program was also honored as an All-Academic Team for having a combined GPA of 3.20. To earn the honor, a team must have a combined GPA of at least 3.0, a mark eight other OVC schools were able to achieve this season.
"I'm very excited that our team was honored nationally again and I am very proud of Ashley as well," said Swieton. "Ashley really put everything together this year and this is a great cap as she finishes her career at Murray State."
Conway, a senior from McHenry, Ill., qualified for the NCAA East Regional and made it her final event at Murray State in May. She earned a spot in the NCAA's when she made a long jump of more than 20 feet at the ASU Red Wolf Open in April. Conway went on to place in the top-5 in the long jump and high jump at the OVC Championships.
She graduated from Murray State with a degree in exercise science with an emphasis on physical therapy and was one of 22 student-athletes that earned the honor from the Ohio Valley Conference.
As a team, the Racers were part of 224 teams nationwide that had at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
"Everyone has been working really hard on the track and in the classroom," Swieton added. "It's great to coach a group that really dedicates themselves to being complete student-athletes."
This marks the third team award for either track or cross country under head coach Jenny Swieton and the first individual award during her tenure.
