Racers ready For Canadian Exhibition Tour

The Murray State men's basketball leaves Saturday for their summer exhibition tour to Ottawa and Montreal.
The Racers and rookie head coach Matt McMahon finish their final of 10 allowed practices Friday afternoon at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
The first opponent for the Racers is against the University of Ottawa Gee Gees. Tip time Sunday (Aug. 2) is set for 5 p.m. CT at Montpetit Hall. Ottawa was 22-2 last season and lost to Carleton University 93-46 in the championship game of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport League Tournament. Ottawa's head coach is James Derouin and will coach his sixth season in the fall. The Gee Gees will also host Baylor and Valparaiso on Aug. 13 and 14.
Murray State's second exhibition is also in the city of Ottawa against the Ravens of Carleton University. Tip time Monday (Aug. 3) is 6 p.m. CT at the Raven's Nest Arena. Carleton plays in the same division in the CIS as Ottawa and has a history that is very impressive. Last season, Carleton was 22-2 and defeated Ottawa in March for their 11th CIS championship in the last 13 seasons. Dave Smart will coach his 17th season at Carleton in 2015-16. The Ravens also have exhibition games in August against Valpo, Baylor and Texas Tech.
After a day off to travel to Montreal, the Racers play their third and final exhibition game (Aug. 5) against the Stingers of Concordia University. Tip time is at 6 p.m. at the Concordia Athletic Complex. The Stingers also compete in the CIS and went 13-19 last season. Head Coach Rastko Popovic will guide the Stingers in his rookie season in 2015-16.
All three of the Racers' opponents compete annually in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), a 29-member league headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario.
The Racers return to Murray Aug. 6.
Murray State is making It's third trip to Canada in recent years. The Racers made a trip north with Coach Mick Cronin in 2005 and in 2011, rookie coach Steve Prohm took the team to Canada.
