Racer Basketball Announces 2015-16 Schedule

2015-16 Schedule I Gulf Coast Showcase
Murray State Men's Basketball released its 2015-16 schedule that gives Racer fans many opportunities to see Matt McMahon's rookie campaign as head coach.
The Racers' slate includes the Gulf Coast Showcase Thanksgiving week and a 15-game home schedule at the CFSB Center. MSU's non-conference opponents at the CFSB Center include Middle Tennessee, Evansville and Southern Illinois.
Murray State enters the season with the nation's fourth-longest run of consecutive winning seasons at 28.
When Ohio Valley Conference play begins in January, the Racers seek to back up last season's championship which was the 24th in program history.
"We've got some big challenges with our non-conference schedule that will prepare us for the OVC," McMahon said. "I'm excited about the opportunity to take our team to the Gulf Coast Showcase and Florida, a state that has been great for us in recruiting. Our home schedule is strong and we have several road games that our fans can make easily."
After an exhibition game at home against Freed-Hardeman (Nov. 5), the Racers open the regular season against Harris Stowe (Nov. 13) as they look to continue a 15-game home win streak from last season. MSU hosts Middle Tennessee (Nov. 17).
The Racers' first road trip begins at Georgia (Nov. 20). The game marks MSU's first appearance in Athens, Ga., and their second meeting with the Bulldogs since they first met in the NCAA Tournament in Chicago in 2002.
From UGA, the Racers head for the Fort Meyers area to compete in the Gulf Coast Showcase (Nov 23-25). Milwaukee is the Racers' first opponent. From there, the Racers will face either Pepperdine or Duquesne. The other half of the bracket features Western Kentucky, Weber State, Central Michigan and Drake.
Saturday, Nov. 28, the Racers are back at home to host Alabama A&M.
In December, the Racers alternate three road and three home games. MSU has road games at Houston (Dec. 2), Illinois State (Dec. 13) and Wright State (Dec. 22). The three home games include Evansville (Dec. 5), Southern Illinois (Dec. 18) and Brescia (Dec. 30).
January marks the start of the OVC season when the Racers host three games against Morehead State (Jan. 2) Tennessee Tech (Jan. 7) and Jacksonville State (Jan. 9). After Racers hit the road for games at Belmont (Jan. 14) and Tennessee State (Jan. 16). MSU finishes the month at home against Eastern Illinois (Jan. 21) and SIUE (Jan. 23) and then plays at Eastern Kentucky (Jan. 27) and UT Martin (Jan. 30).
The Racers alternate home and away games in February starting with a game at Southeast Missouri (Feb. 4) and then home against Austin Peay (Feb. 6). The rest of the month finds the Racers playing second games with their OVC East Division opponents. Senior day will be the final home game of the season (Feb. 27) with UT Martin. Before that, the Racers play at Eastern Illinois (Feb. 25).
The OVC Tournament is March 2-5, 2016 in Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. Murray State leads the OVC with 15 post-season tournament championships and look for their first since 2012.
