The Racers close their non-conference slate in South Carolina at the Winthrop Invite. MSU won its previous two tournaments this season, going 3-0 at both the Catamount Classic and Sycamore Holiday Inn Classic.
Last Week
MSU improved its record to 7-1 overall and pushed its winning streak to four matches with three victories last weekend at the Sycamore Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Indiana State. The Racers swept IPFW and Indiana State, and prevailed in five sets against Eastern Michigan in its first non-three set match of the year.
MVP
Scottie Ingram impressed in her return to her home state of Indiana, being named Most Valuable Player of the classic last weekend. Ingram led the Racers with 43 kills in the three matches (3.91 per set) and also had a team-best nine service aces. Ingram also averaged 2.18 digs per set and had four total blocks.
More Honors for Bedard
Setter Sam Bedard, in addition to being named to the all-tournament team at Indiana State, was named the ADIDAS OVC Setter of the Week for the second time this season. Bedard averaged over 10 assists per set over the weekend, totaling 112 for the tournament. Bedard also led the Racers defensively, averaging 4.36 digs per set and recorded a double-double in all three matches.
Out of the Gate
The Racers' 7-1 start to the season is their second-best opening to a season in program history. MSU began 2014's historic campaign winning its first nine matches of the year. Prior to that, the Racers' best start was a 6-1 mark to begin the 2006 season.
Scouting Davidson
The Wildcats use a balanced attack offensively, featuring four players with 45 kills or more. Mason Rooney leads the squad with 80 kills while Ciera Cockrell and Sabrina Shepherd have 58 and 56 kills, respectively. Emily Franklin has 46 kills on the year. Davidson uses a two setter offense. Mikayla Derochie leads the Wildcats with 158 assists while Rooney has 152. Shepherd has been potent attacking the ball as she is hitting a team-high .442 on the season. Defensively, Franklin leads the team with 31 total blocks and Layne Doctson leads the Wildcats with 85 digs. Chris Willis is in his fifth season with the Wildcats as head coach.

Scouting Winthrop
The Eagles feature three All-Big South Conference honorees from a season ago in first team member Rachel Lenz and honorable mention honoree Brianna Gray. Nikki Drost was an All-Freshman Team member in 2014. Lourdes Rosario leads the team with 123 kills on the season while Annelies Dokter has 107 kills. Mdilyn McCarty leads the team with 388 assists (9.46 per set) and is also hitting .444 from her setter position with 1.32 points per set. Lenz leads the team with 44 total blocks in 2015, while Gray leads the team with 1.13 blocks per set. Head Coach Bruce Atkinson is in his third season with the Eagles.

Scouting West Virginia
The Mountaineers are led offensively by Morgan Montgomery's 131 kills and 3.64 kills per set, Caleah Wells is second on the team with 96 kills. Brittany Sample leads the team with 337 assists so far in 2015 and in the back row, Gianna Gotterba's 142 digs leads the team. At the net defensively, Hannah Shreve is by far and away WVU's best, averaging 1.25 blocks per set with 45 blocks overall. The Mountaineers boast five players with five service aces or more on the young season. WVU is led by first-year coach Reed Sunahara, who spent 2013 as the assistant coach of the US National Team. Sunahara spent 12 seasons as the Head Coach at Cincinnati where he led the Bearcats to eight NCAA Tournament appearances.
