Racers Come Up Short in Fall Opener

Murray State women's tennis opened fall play in exhibition matches against Saint Louis and Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Ill. The Racers were defeated in both matches at Darling Courts.
MSU won the doubles point against EIU, with the pairs of Erin Patton/Haily Morgan winning 6-3 and Suzaan Stolt/Alina Schibol won 7-6, including a tiebreaker.
Erin Patton continued on with her singles match against EIU. She won the first set 6-4, but lost the second 3-6. Patton went on to win a long tiebreaker that ended in her facor 14-12. Amina Hadzic also pulled out a win in her singles match, winning 6-2, 6-2.
However, it wouldn't be enough for the Racers to top the Panthers as EIU won 4-3.
MSU geared up for its next match against Saint Louis.
Unfortunately, the Racers couldn't find their stride and dropped a 6-1 loss.
Amina Hadzic was the lone Racer to post a win with a 6-3, 6-1victory against the Billikens.
Despite losses to both teams, Murray State head coach Jorge Caetano was pleased with his team.
"It was a good first tournament overall," Caetano said. "I was looking forward to seeing the new girls competing and also to see how the seniors were going to play and I am very happy with the way all of them competed this weekend. The seniors did a great job helping the freshman to stay calm and the team spirit of this group is amazing."
The Racers will hit the courts at the UTC Tennis Center for the Chattanooga Invitational on Friday.
