Racers Have Grand First Day at Commodore Invite

The Murray State women's track and field team competed in the first day of the Vanderbilt Commodore Invite in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday.
Tamdra Lawrence broke her personal record in the 200 meters with a time of 24.57. Her time was good enough to take seventh place at the meet and ranks fourth all time for the Racers. Deja Rodgers broke her season record in the 200 meters. Her time of 25.37 was enough to be among the top ten all-time at Murray State. Jabreuna Brimlett (25.89), Anna Curlin (26.08), Victoria Yocum (26.47), Jocelyn Payne (26.70). Taylor McCammon (26.74), Taylor Adcock (27.68), and Lauren Miller (27.86) competed in the 200 meters as well.
Vallery Korir finished sixth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:47. Her time ranks sixth all-time at Murray State. Meagan Smith finished ninth with a time of 18:26. Rebekah Priddy finished closely behind in tenth place with a personal best time of 18:32. Leah Krause (19:04) and Emily Flaherty (19:50) also competed in the 5,000 meters.
Brianna McCarthy threw 13.80m (45'3") in the weight throw. Marina Keller also competed in the event as she threw 10.56 (34'8").
In the long jump, McCammon jumped a personal best 5.45m (17'10.75"). Jill Jachino also competed in the long jump as she jumped 5.10m (16' 8.75").
The 4 x 800 meter relay team comprised of Brittany Bohn, Emani Griffin, Emma Gilmore, and Ali Hester finished second with a time of 9:18. The time is second best in school history.
Head coach Jenny Swieton was pleased with her team's performance. "The highlights so far have been the 4x800 and the 200 meters," said Swieton. "I was very excited to see where we are at the start of the season in those areas."
The Racers will finish the Commodore Invite Saturday. The events are set to start at 11 a.m.
