The Murray State women continue their three-game homestand Thursday as Tennessee Tech comes to "The Bank" for a 5 p.m. OVC tilt. The Racers are coming off an 83-79 come-from-behind victory over Morehead State on Saturday in the conference opener. MSU is looking for its first 2-0 start to league play since 2007-08.
Ke'Shunan James was named the ADIDAS OVC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Tuesday for her performance in the win over Morehead State. James recorded career-highs with 32 points and 12 rebounds in the victory while shooting 10-of-15 and 5-of-7 from 3-point range. It is James' second player of the week award this season.
Kyra Gulledge and Ajee Smith had big games against the Eagles as well, as Gulledge recorded a career-high 13 rebounds to go along with 14 points while Smith dished-out a career-best 10 assists. Gulledge and James became the first pair of Racer teammates to record double-doubles in the same game since James and Netanya Jackson both had double-doubles last season against Eastern Kentucky.
The Golden Eagles are led by Samaria Howard who is averaging 18.9 points per game. Howard is the only player in double figures for TTU this season and accounts for over 31 percent of the Golden Eagles' scoring output. Hannah Goolsby is second on the squad averaging 9.9 per game. Alliyah Smith leads TTU on the boards, averaging 7.3 rebounds per contest.
TTU's 60.3 points per game rank second-to-last in the league, however in two OVC games this season, TTU is averaging 74.5 points per contest which ranks sixth in the league. The Golden Eagles are shooting 46 percent from the floor as a team in two league games, a mark that ranks third in the OVC. The Golden Eagles are led by Head Coach Jim Davis who is in his third season with the team.
Thursday' contest, as well as Saturday's against Jacksonville State, will be a doubleheader along with the men's team.
