Well-Balanced Attack Leads Racers Past TTU
10/14/2016 9:06:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
The Murray State volleyball team ran its regular season home match winning streak to 20 on Friday night as the Racers made quick work of Tennessee Tech at Racer Arena, winning in straight sets, 25-12, 25-20 and 25-7.
MSU (11-8, 6-1 OVC) controlled the match from start to finish and hit .340 as a team in the sweep and held the Golden Eagles (6-14, 2-5 OVC) to just a .020 percentage as a team. That .020 attack percentage is a new season-low for the Racer defense.
It was a well-balanced Racer offense with Kamille Jones leading the way with a season-high 11 kills in the win and hitting .360, while Scottie Ingram added 10 kills and 10 digs for her 15th double-double of the season. Kristen Besselsen added nine kills and a pair of service aces while Dacia Brown chipped in with seven kills and a .429 hitting percentage and Olivia Chatman had six kills on a match-high .545 attack percentage.
Hannah Stultz had a great match for MSU as she tallied her third double-double of the year as she recorded 39 assists and 11 digs and was also a huge weapon in the serve game, tallying a career-best six service aces. MSU had 10 service aces as a team while TTU had five. Ellie Lorenz was terrific in the back row defensively as she averaged nearly eight digs per set, registering 23 overall in the win.
For a third consecutive match the Racers recorded more team blocks on the night, tallying five overall while the Golden Eagles had just two. Brown led the way defensively at the net with one solo and two blocking assists.
The Racers look to remain on top of the OVC standings as they return to action Saturday afternoon at Racer Arena. MSU welcomes Jacksonville State for a 2 p.m. match.
