This Weekend
The Racers begin their five-match road trip as they travel to Nashville for a pivotal weekend against Tennessee State and Belmont. MSU remains tied atop the OVC standings with Austin Peay at 7-1. The Governors will also play TSU and Belmont this weekend. The Racers have won their last three contests against TSU, while Belmont ended MSU's season last year in the title match of the OVC Tournament.
Last Weekend
MSU picked up a pair of sweeps at home last weekend by defeating Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State. The wins push the Racers' regular season home winning streak to 21 straight now. MSU hit .340 and held the Golden Eagles to just a .020 clip in Friday's win. Kamille Jones led the way with 11 kills and hit .360 on the night while Scottie Ingram added 10 kills. The next day against JSU, Ingram led the way in the sweep with 16 kills while Kristen Besselsen added 12 and hit .348.
OVC Players of the Week
Ellie Lorenz was named the ADIDAS OVC Defensive Player of the Week and Hannah Stultz was named Co-Setter of the Week on Monday for their performances last weekend against TTU and JSU. It was the second player of the week honor this season for both student-athletes. Lorenz was a monster defensively in the back row for the Racers as she averaged an incredible 6.83 digs per set in the two victories. In the win against TTU, Lorenz collected a match-high 23 digs and then followed that up with an 18-dig performance in the win over JSU.
Stultz was great in orchestrating the offense over the weekend for the Racers as MSU hit .304 as a team in the two sweeps. Stultz averaged an OVC-leading 14 assists per set over the weekend, recording 39 against TTU and 45 against the Gamecocks. Stultz also had eight service aces in the two matches, including a career-high six in the win over TTU.
League Leaders
Ingram and Stultz both lead the OVC in conference play this season in kills and assists per set, respectively. Ingram is currently averaging 4.31 kills per while Stultz is dishing out 11.73 assists per set. Lorenz meanwhile, is leading the league during OVC play with 5.85 digs per set and overall on the season at 5.08. Olivia Chatman is currently hitting a league-high .405 in conference games.
Scouting Tennessee State
Tennessee State enters the weekend led by Chloe Watson's 285 kills (3.20 per set). The 2015 All-OVC performer is hitting .159 on the season and is second on the team averaging 2.72 digs per set and is fourth with 42 total blocks. Payten Clark and Julia Pierson lead the Tigers with 55 total blocks in 2016 while Pierson is second with 208 kills and Clark is second with 131. Libero Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus leads the squad with 4.33 digs per set and setter Puamana Danielson is averaging 7.38 assists per. As a team, TSU is hitting .199 and has 146.5 total blocks (1.65 per set).
Scouting Belmont
2015 OVC Tournament Champion Belmont is led by two-time All-OVC honoree Arianna Person's 3.71 kills per set. Person is hitting .194 on the season and is also averaging 2.50 digs per set. Brie Lewis is also hitting .194 this season and is second on the team at 2.72 kills per set. Setter Emma Price is averaging 9.78 assists per set and 2.44 digs per. As a team, the Bruins lead the league with 156 service aces and also have 134.5 total team blocks. Belmont is hitting .174 overall on the season.
