MSU Athletics 2016 Homecoming Events Planned

Homecoming is a special time at Murray state University and it is as well for Racers Athletics. Former coaches and student-athletes will be returning to campus in just about every sport to enjoy the weekend and see teammates again. In many cases, these teammates haven't seen each other in many years.

Former MSU baseball student-athlete, Dave Winder, now working in the MSU Athletics department, can attest to the significance of homecoming at Murray State.

"I think it's amazing, that I can see a teammate of mine from the late 1980's and pick up where we left off," Winder said. "For those of us that work here at Murray State, we're thrilled to host our alumni and especially those who had a part in athletics and to make their return the best it can be."

The highlight of homecoming for MSU Athletics is the return of Coach Frank Beamer, who led the Racers in six seasons, ending with his team winning the 1986 Ohio Valley Conference championship. Beamer and several members of his 1986 team will be on campus this weekend.

There are several events surrounding athletics on homecoming weekend. Here is a rundown.

Friday, Oct. 28
6:00 p.m. - The 1986 OVC champion football will gather in the Racer Room for a time of fellowship.

6:00 p.m. – MSU Baseball will have an intrasquad scrimmage at Reagan Field. Fans are invited to come out. Admission is free.

Saturday, Oct. 29
8:00 a.m. – All former Racer student-athletes will gather for the M Club Breakfast on the third floor ballroom of the Curris Center.

9:30 a.m. – The Murray State homecoming parade will begin at the downtown court square in Murray. Racer 1, Racer Band, Racer Girls and the MSU cheerleaders will all be part of the fun as the parade heads west on main street until it reaches the president's home at Oakhurst. Coach Frank Beamer and the 1986 Racer football team will also be in the parade.

10:00 a.m. – MSU baseball will hold its reunion game at Reagan Field.

10:00 a.m. - MSU men's basketball will have a scrimmage at the CFSB Center.

12 p.m. – Coach Beamer and MSU Hall of Fame QB Michael Proctor will make a visit to the MSU Athletics tent in Tent City. The tent is located just inside the north wall of Roy Stewart Stadium.

12:30 p.m. - MSU softball will gather at Racer Field for a reunion.

3:00 p.m. – The homecoming football game between the Tennessee State Tigers and the Murray State Racers will kick off at Stewart Stadium. Coach Beamer will be part of the coin toss and he will also be on the field at halftime with his 1986 team to be honored by those in attendance.
