Racers Look For Weekend Success At BGSU Bill Frack Tournament

It's three games in three days for the Murray State Racers when they travel to Bowling Green, Ohio to participate in the Bill Frack Tournament at the Stroh Center. The Racers are joined in the event by the Green Bay Phoenix, UMKC Kangaroos and the host Bowling Green State Falcons.
The Racers (1-1) meet Green Bay (1-1) for the first time in program history in game one on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. MSU plays UMKC Saturday at 3 p.m. CT, the Sunday meets BGSU in the late game at 6 p.m. CT. There is no streaming video available for MSU's first two games, while their game against the Falcons on Monday will be carried by ESPN3.com.Â
All Racer games are aired live on free radio on WFGE 103.7FM with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley, in his 26th season and MSU Assistant AD, Dave Winder calling the action. Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com has free online streaming audio.Â
The Racers are coming off an 87-81 loss at Middle Tennessee Tuesday. Jonathan Stark and Damarcus Croaker posted a pair of 23-point performances as they combined to go 16-of-29 from the field for 55 percent and they hit 6-of-7 together from the 3-point line. MSU cut an 11-point second half deficit to three, but couldn't get closer.The Racers beat Illinois State on opening night on a buzzer 3-pointer by Jonathan Stark 73-70. Stark is third in the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring at 21 points per game.Â
Green Bay played in California Tuesday while the Racers were on the road at Middle Tennessee. The Phoenix suffered a cold shooting night at Pacific and took a 76-58 defeat in Stockton, Calif. The Phoenix shot 30 percent from the field on 17-for-56 and they were 22 percent (5-for-22) from three-point range.
Both head coaches in the first match up have something in common, they both were assistant coaches with the Racers. Matt McMahon and Linc Darner are also each in their second seasons as head coach. McMahon was assistant under Steve Prohm from 2011-15 before became MSU's 16th head coach. Coach Darner was an assistant at Murray State with Coach Mark Gottifried from 1995-97.
Murray State is meeting a Green Bay team that won the Horizon League Tournament last spring and participated in their first NCAA Tournament since 1996 and fifth overall. The Phoenix was picked third in the Horizon Preseason Poll and Charles Cooper was named to the All-Preseason Team.
On day two of the Bill Frack Tournament, the Racers face Kansas City for the first time since 1983 and for just the fourth time overall in the series that the Racers lead 2-1.
After the weekend in Bowling Green, the Racers return home to enjoy that Thanksgiving holiday and then get back on the home floor at the CFSB Center against Alabama A&M on Saturday (Nov. 26). MSU closes out the first month of the season at Southern Illinois on Nov. 29.
