Second Half Swoon Costs Racers at ETSU

The Murray State women were outscored 45-24 in the second half and were held to a season-low 18 percent shooting from 3-point range as the Racers fell to 4-3 on the season with a 79-60 loss at East Tennessee State Monday night.
MSU was held to just 31 percent shooting in the second half while the Buccaneers (3-3) shot 62 percent from the floor in the last two quarters. For the game, the Racers shot 36.2 percent (25-for-69) from the field and ETSU shot 49.2 percent (31-of-63).
The Racers got off to a solid start to the game as they closed the first quarter on a 17-5 run and led 25-16 after one. MSU led by as many as 11 in the first half, but saw its lead dwindle to just two, 36-34 at halftime.
ETSU went on a huge run at the end of the third quarter and to begin the fourth as the Bucs went on a 17-0 run over 4:30 minutes of play and led by 19, 69-50 with 7:23 left to play in the game. The Racers were unable to make up too much ground the rest of the game as they were only able to cut the deficit down to 14.
The Bucs had a huge edge on the glass as they out-rebounded the Racers 50-30 and had a 16-4 advantage in second-chance points. They also enjoyed a 44-32 edge in points in the paint, including a 26-11 advantage in just the second half.
The Racers hit a season-low five 3-pointers in the loss and had a team-low on the year eight assists. ETSU shot just 3-for-13 from beyond the arc and had 15 assists. The Bucs also went 14-of-22 at the free-throw line while MSU was just 5-of-7.
Abria Gulledge led the way offensively in the loss as she had 18 points. Ke'Shunan James added 14 and Bria Bethea chipped in with 13 off the bench. Kyra Gulledge and James both led MSU with seven boards on the night while Bethea had six.
MSU returns home to the CFSB Center after a nice little break as Evansville comes to town for a 2 p.m. tip on Sunday.
