The Murray State women's basketball team returns home after two-game road trip last week. The Racers are looking to snap their current two-game skid, having lost their last game, 60-79 at East Tennessee State. MSU is a perfect 4-0 at "The Bank" this season.
In the loss at ETSU, Abria Gulledge led the team with 18 points while Ke'Shunan James added 14 and Bria Bethea had 13 off the bench. MSU shot a season-low 36.2 percent in the loss and went just 5-of-28 (18 percent) from 3-point range. The Buccaneers out-rebounded MSU 50-30 in the game and had a 16-4 edge in second-chance points.
LeAsia Wright was named the ADIDAS OVC Player of the Week on Tuesday for efforts in MSU's win over Lipscomb on Nov. 22 and in the loss at Ohio Nov. 26. Wright averaged 22.5 points per game on 53 percent shooting from the floor in MSU's two games.
Wright, who also went 7-of-13 from 3-point range, averaged 7.5 rebounds and a team-high 3.5 assists per game during the week as well. In the Racers' 79-59 win last Tuesday over Lipscomb, Wright scored 23 points on a career-best 10 made field goals while also adding seven boards and four assists. Following that, Wright led the Racers with 22 points in their loss at Ohio. Wright went 4-for-7 from beyond the arc in the game and also grabbed eight boards and dished-out a team-high three assists.
In last season's victory over the Purple Aces, Wright scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field, including a career-best 8-for-12 from 3-point range. The eight made 3-pointers was just one shy of tying the program record for made threes in a single game.
The Purple Aces enter Sunday's contest fresh of their first victory of the season over Valparaiso on Wednesday. UE is led by the program's all-time leading scorer in Sara Dickey who is averaging 17.5 points per game this season. Camary Williams and Brooke Dossett are the other Purple Aces averaging in double figures this year with 12.7 and 10 points per game, respectively. Sasha Robinson leads UE with 9.5 rebounds per game and is scoring 7.5 per contest. As a team, Evansville is shootin 36 percent from the floor and 23 percent from 3-point range.
