The Murray State women's basketball team returns home to the CFSB Center Monday where they look to improve their home record to 5-1 this season. The Racers are coming off a 72-69 overtime victory over Northern Kentucky on Saturday at the BB&T Center in Highland Heights, Ky. It was the Racers' first road win this season and first overtime game since February 17, 2016 when they defeated Eastern Illinois, 74-71.
Ke'Shunan James and LeAsia Wright led MSU with 24 and 22 points, respectively in the win over the Norse. It is the third time this season that a pair of Racers have scored 20 or more in the same game. James and Abria Gulledge both had 20-plus in the opener against Eureka (Nov. 11) and both James and Wright also went over 20 in the win over Lipscomb on Nov. 22. Kyra Gulledge was a point shy of her first double-double of the season on Saturday as she scored nine points on 4-of-5 shooting and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds. Gulledge has gone 10-of-14 (71 percent) shooting from the field in her last six games.
James and Wright, who are first and second on the team in scoring this season, averaging 20.4 and 15.1 points per game, respectively, have scored in double figures in all but one game this season and have combined for eight 20-plus point performances. The duo also leads the Racers in minutes played averaging 33.7 minutes per for James and 32.3 for Wright. The two each played a team-high 43 minutes Saturday at NKU.
This will be the first-ever meeting between MSU and MacMurray. The Division III Highlanders are coming off their first victory of the season on Saturday with a 71-48 win over Robert Morris-Springfield. MacMurray is led by Liz Kruemmelbein's 11.2 points per game this season, she is the only Highlander averaging in double figures on the year. Kayla Horlacher is second on the squad at 9.4 per game while Danielle Popis leads the team averaging 5.9 rebounds per contest. This season, MacMurray is averaging 53.9 points per game and is allowing 76.9. The Highlanders are shooting 33.7 percent from the floor and 26 percent from 3-point range. Derek James is in his fourth season with MC.
Monday will be the third all-time meeting for the Racers against the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. MSU is 2-0 in its first two meetings and have already played one SLIAC opponent earlier this year in Eureka in the season opener.
