Racers Face a Two-Game Test in Kansas

Looking to extend its winning streak to a season-long three and four games, the Murray State women's basketball team travels to Wichita State for the WSU Winter Classic where the Racers will face Incarnate Word at 4 p.m., Friday and Abilene Christian on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Racers are coming off a 93-37 walloping of Division III MacMurray on Monday. Five Racers scored in double figures in the win and were led by Ke'Shunan James and LeAsia Wright's 16 points. MSU forced the Highlanders into 38 turnovers on the night and recorded a program record 27 steals in the win. A total of 12 Racers scored against MacMurray.
MSU is just 1-3 away from the CFSB Center this season, compared to a 5-1 record in Murray. This weekend's matchups will be the first neutral site, regular season contests for the Racers since they played Jackson State in 2014 at Ball State. The Racers went 1-1 in neutral site games last season, both of which came in Nashville in the OVC Tournament.
The UIW Cardinals are led in most statistical categories by forward Celia Garcia Paunero who is averaging 14 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting a team-best 40 percent from the floor. Garcia Paunero is also shooting 33 percent from 3-point range and a team-high 86.7 percent at the free throw line. Cheyenne Berry is second on UIW averaging 8.1 points per game. As a team, the Cardinals are shooting 30.3 percent both overall from the field and from beyond the arc while averaging 32.3 rebounds per game. UIW is led by Head Coach Christy Smith who is in her first season with the team.
The ACU Wildcats are led offensively by Sydney Shelstead's 12.8 points per game. Shelstead also leads ACU with 8.7 rebounds a contest. Alexis Mason, who's played each of the last four games for the Wildcats, is second on the team averaging 10.3 points per game and is averaging two assists per. Sierra Allen is third on the team averaging 9.2 points per game and is shooting a team-best 53 percent from the floor while coming off the bench. ACU is shooting nearly 40 percent overall from the floor and is hitting 32 percent from 3-point range. The Wildcats are led by Head Coach Julie Goodenough who is in her fifth season.
