Murray State and Northern Kentucky will meet one another on Saturday at the BB&T Center in Highland Heights, Ky., for the first time since 1981. The Racers' last win in the series came at NKU back on Jan. 21, 1980. The Norse have won the last four meetings between the two.
The Racers enter Saturday's contest looking to snap a season-long three-game losing streak and are also looking for their first road win of the year. MSU is coming off an 82-77 loss Sunday to Evansville at the CFSB Center. It was the Racers' first setback at home so far this season.
Ke'Shunan James and LeAsia Wright led MSU with 17 points each in the loss while Abria Gulledge added 16. All three went 5-for-10 from the field in the contest with Gulledge hitting a team-best three 3-pointers. MSU had a season-high 21 turnovers against the Purple Aces, leading to 24 points for UE. Evansville also outscored the Racers 11-2 on second-chance points.
In five games this season at home, the Racers are outscoring their opponents 83.6 to 63.6, while on the road, MSU is scoring just 64.3 per contest and allowing 76. The Racers are also shooting 36 percent from the floor and just 27 percent from 3-point range in road contests, compared to a 44 and 31 percent clip at "The Bank".
The Norse enter this weekend's contest with no student-athlete scoring in double figures so far this season, NKU is led by Kasey Uetrecht's 9.4 points per game. Terry Mikayla and Rebecca Lyttle are second and third on the team in scoring at 8.6 and 8.1 points per game, respectively. Lyttle leads the Norse with 7.1 rebounds per contest and a 54 percent field goal percentage. As a team, Northern Kentucky is shooting 33.6 percent from the floor and 25 percent from beyond the arc.
The Norse and the Racers have two common opponents in Ohio and East Tennessee State as NKU lost to Ohio in late November, 58-41 and defeated ETSU two weeks ago, 62-56. NKU is led by first-year Head Coach Camryn Whitaker.
