2/27/2016 11:31:00 PM | Softball
The Murray State softball team lost both games of Saturday's doubleheader to Northwestern State, 6-2 and 5-0, at the Lady Demon Diamond in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
The Racers (4-4) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game one thanks to an error in the first by Northwestern State (10-4) that allowed junior Jessica Twaddle to cross the plate and RBI-single in the second, also by Twaddle.
However, the Lady Demons would battle back and score six unanswered runs for the 6-2 win. Twaddle was 2-for-4 in the game, while juniors Jocelynn Rodgers and Mallory Young had one hit each. Mason Robinson fell to 3-2 with the loss after giving up four runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work
After matching the Lady Demons hit-for-hit with in the opener, the Racers did it again in game two with five. However, despite, equaling NSU in hits, the Racers were unable to push any of their eight base runners across the plate and fell 5-0.
Twaddle and Young, senior Shelbey Miller, junior Cayla Levins and freshman Madison Culver each had a hit in the contest, while Twaddle and senior Erica Howard also had a walk. Haven Campbell (1-1) took the loss in the shutout by allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout over 4.0 innings.
The Racers will to look to avoid the sweep Sunday when they return to Lady Demon Diamond for a single-game with a 12 p.m. start.
