The Murray State track and field team had record setting performances on Friday in Southbend, Indiana. The distance meter relay team and Vallery Korir set new school records on the first day of the Meyo Invitational.
The distance meter relay team made up of Ali Hester, Emma Gilmore, Brittany Bohn, and Jocelyn Payne finished with a time of 11:55. The time is the best all-time at Murray State as it beats the record set in 2015.
Korir set the new school record in the 5000 meters as she finished with a time of 17:06. She breaks the old school record which she set in 2015 by more than ten seconds. Meagan Smith also set a new personal record. Smith finished with a time of 17:48 which ranks sixth all-time at MSU. Caroline Grogan also competed in the event finishing with a time of 18:05.
While some Racers were setting new school records at the Meyo Invitational, others were competing in Carbondale, Ill. Jabreuna Brimlett and Taylor McCammon competed in the pentathlon. Brimlett finished third in the event with a score of 3129. She ran the best 60 meter hurdle time (8.92) and jumped the furthest in the long jump (5.57m 18'3.25"). McCammon finished the event in fourth with a person best 2980 points.
Racers set more personal records at the Don DeNoon Invitational. Emily Heil vaulted a season best 3.13m (10'3") in the pole vault. Darcy Sullivan set a new personal record in the weight throw as she threw 8.93m (29'3.5").
