Women's Tennis Opens OVC Play With a Win

The Murray State women's tennis team was victorious in their first OVC match of the season as they defeated Morehead State 5-2 at Sadler Courts in Morehead, Ky.
The Racers jumped out to an early lead as they won the doubles point. Partners Megan Blue and Amina Hadzic came out strong as they defeated their opponent 6-2. A victory by partners Jeanne Masson and Alina Schibol helped clinch the doubles point for Murray State and contributed to the early 1-0 lead.
In the singles matches, the Racers fought hard to get the victory. At the No. 3 singles, Haily Morgan fell behind early as she lost her first set 1-6. The freshman fought back and won her next two sets 7-5, 7-5 to win the point. Erin Patton also took her opponent to three sets. After taking an early lead by winning her first match 6-0, Patton lost her second set at the No. 4 singles 4-6. The senior rallied back in the third set to win 7-5. At the No. 5 singles, Schibol won her match 6-1, 6-4. Masson won her match at the No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-0 to round out the field.
Murray State (6-4) looks to keep the momentum going as they take on Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. The Racers have won the past four meetings between the teams. The last match up came in the OVC Tournament where the Racers defeated the Colonels 4-2 to win the OVC Tournament and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Match time for Saturday is set for 10 a.m.
