Racers Finish A Strong 6th Place At FAU Event

The Murray State men's golf team came away with an impressive showing in a strong field of 18 teams at the FAU Slomin Autism Invitational in Lake Worth, Florida at Fountains Country Club.

Highlighted by a 282 in round two, the Racers started with a 293 and ended with a 286 to finish in sixth place with a team score of 861. MSU played some solid team golf in recording scores of 293-282-286=861 to finish ahead of seventh place Georgia Southern (863) and two shots behind Florida Atlantic and DePaul who shared fourth place at 859.

The Racers played the last two rounds of the FAU event eight under par and bested Ohio Valley Conference teams Jacksonville State (11th place at 870) and Morehead State (17th at 906).

Jared Gosser paced the Racers with a finishing spot of 16th place in the field of 108 competitors with rounds of 70-71-73=214. Brock Simmons had scores of 76-70-70=216 and finished 26th place, while Duncan McCormick placed 33rd with scores of 76-70-71=217. Preston French was in 36th place after rounds of 75-71-72=218. Matthew Zakutney finished 50th with rounds of 72-73-76=221.

Gabe Wheeler played the event as an individual for the Racers and placed 55th with scores of 71-74-77=222. He was fourth among 18 solo players in the field.

Ole Miss won the team title with a score of 841, ahead of UConn (852) and Central Florida (856).

The race for the medalist at FAU finished in a three-way tie between Braden Thornberry and Noah West each of Ole Miss were tied at 136 with Central Florida's Manuel Elvira, Patrick Flavin of Miami (OH) who all finished at 205.

The North Course of the Fountains CC played to a par of 71 and 6,876 yards.

The Racers are back in action at the Big Blue Intercollegiate (April 11-12) hosted by Tennessee State at the
Hermitage Golf Club in Nashville, Tenn.
