Racers Host SIUE In Crucial OVC Series

This Weekend's Games
The Racers will take on SIUE in a three-game set Saturday and Sunday at Racer Field. The games will be crucial for both teams as the Cougars are currently fourth in the OVC and the Racers are in a three-way tie for fifth with three conference weekend remaining. First pitch on both days is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Previously On Racer Softball
The Racers were shutout Wednesday at Southern Illinois, 2-0, falling for the second time this season to the Salukis. Southern Illinois only out hit MSU, 4-3, in the contest, but it was a pair of errors that gave SIU the early advantage. The Salukis made it 1-0 in the third after a dropped fly ball in the outfield and a short throw to first base led to the run. In the fifth, SIU manufactured a second run by using two singles, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring at 2-0. Shelbey Miller finished the game at 2-for-3, while Maddy Feeney was 1-for-3 with a double, the game's lone extra base hit. Mason Robinson took the loss and allowed just one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts and no walks over 6.0 innings.
All-Time vs. SIUE
The Racers and Cougars entered last season tied at eight games apiece, but a 3-for-4 performance by the Cougars, including an OVC tournament win, left MSU in a 12-9 deficit. Despite the recent losses, MSU will enter the game on a three-game streak in Murray, where they are 4-2 all-time.
Scouting The Cougars
After dropping two of three last weekend, the Cougars swept a mid-week doubleheader with Western Illinois Tuesday and will enter the weekend at 15-19 overall and 7-6 in OVC play. SIUE currently bats .238 as a team and is led by Jordan LaFave at .306, while Alyssa Herren follows at .300. In the circle, the Cougars currently have a team ERA of 2.69, while opponents bat .248 against them.
Baylee Douglass and Ashley Koziol have split the pitching duties for SIUE this season and have been the only two pitchers to make appearances for the Cougars in 2016. Douglass currently leads the way with a 10-7 record, a 2.00 ERA and 97 strikeouts, while Koziol follows at 5-12, with a 3.72 ERA and 52 strikeouts.
It's More Fun With Friends
At SIU, Shelbey Miller recorded her ninth multi-hit game of the season giving her 55 for her career. She is now second all-time in games with two-plus hits and sits five behind leader Mo Ramsey at 64.
No Free Loading
Despite the loss Wednesday, Mason Robinson allowed no walks over six innings, marking the sixth time this season that the Racers have done so. Coincidentally, it was also the third that neither team issued a single walk.
Bats Heating Up
After tallying double-digit hits in just five of their first 30 games, the Racers have now has 10-plus hits in five of their last eight contests. Murray State is currently 6-4 in games in which they record 10 or more hits.
Fun With Numbers
So far this season MSU is a perfect 10-0 in games in which they score six or more runs. Conversely, when opponents score six or more runs, the Racers are 0-8.
