With the regular season in the rear-view mirror, the Murray State women's tennis team sets their sights on the OVC tournament at the Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The Racers enter the tournament the No. 6 seed as they finished the season with an 11-9 overall record and a 6-4 record in the conference. MSU enters the tournament as the two-time reigning OVC Tournament champions. Seniors Erin Patton, Megan Blue, and Suzaan Stoltz were members of those teams.Â
The Racers face the three seed Eastern Kentucky. MSU leads the series 42-17, but the Colonels won the regular season matchup 7-0. Murray State has faced Eastern Kentucky in the finals of the OVC Tournament the past two years, with Murray State coming out victorious in both matches.
Eastern Kentucky came into the season as the preseason favorites to win the conference. EKU enters the tournament as the three seed with a 13-10 overall record and an 8-2 record in conference. The Colonels two losses came against the top seeded UT Martin and SIUE in the regular season finale.
Murray State comes into the match on a three match winning streak. Doubles partners Erin Patton and Haily Morgan are on winning streaks of their own. The duo has won their past five doubles matches at the No. 1 court. Patton has also won her past five singles matches. The senior is familiar with winning streaks as she went undefeated in dual play in the 2015 season. Morgan is on a singles win streak of her own. The freshmen has won six consecutive matches at the No. 3 position and is 14-10 overall and 17-3 in OVC play
The first round of the OVC tournament begins Friday. Match time is set for 2 p.m and admission to the Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center is free. The winner of the match will move on to the semifinals of the OVC Tournament and will face the second seeded SIUE.Â
