The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) named a pair of Murray State student-athletes as a 2016 All-America Athlete.
Megan Blue of MSU women's tennis and Wayne Langston of MSU men's basketball were honored by the NSCA. The organization cited Blue and Langston for improvement and leading by example in their sport. Murray State Strength & Conditioning Coach David Land worked closely with both Blue and Langston and their teams.
Blue, from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada came to Murray State in 2012 and finished as a part of back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference Champions in 2013 and 2014. She had 27 career singles wins at MSU and 45 in doubles play. She was named All-OVC this spring.
"Megan's intensity and athleticism was apparent since day one," said Coach Land. "Her interest in performance and nutrition was second only to her self-discipline and mindset. Her mentality rubbed off on her teammates and it helped them to back-to-back OVC titles. She served as a strength & conditioning intern with Murray State this school year and is preparing to attend grad school for kinesiology this fall."
Langston, from Washington, D.C., ranked 11th in the nation in field goal percentage (.629) and was among the OVC leaders in scoring 13.5 points per game and grabbed 6.1 rebounds per game. He turned in a tremendous senior season as one of the top big men in the OVC.
"Wayne came from a junior college and had a Division-I skill set and basketball IQ," Land said. "In his first full offseason, Wayne committed himself to the weight room, eating right, and transformed his body. This allowed the Racer's offense to run through him during his senior year. His discipline and hard work in the offseason undoubtedly played a huge role in why the Racers extended the nation's fourth-longest consecutive winning season streak to 29."
