Late Touchdown Sends SEMO Past Racers

Just The Facts
Jesse Hosket found Adrian Davis from 20 yards out to give Southeast Missouri a 17-16 lead with 1:05 left in regulation during Saturday night's game against the Murray State football team at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray. Despite the late score, the Racers would drive 54 yards in five plays in less than a minute to give themselves a change at the win. However, a 38-yard field goal attempt by Connor Mitchell as time expired would be no good, allowing the Redhawks to hang on for the one-point win.
The Turning Point
Murray State went three-and out on two fourth quarter drives with under 10 minutes to play, including one with just over four minutes remaining, to give SEMO the ball with just 2:33 left on the clock. The Redhawks then drove 58 yards in just four plays, using just 1:28 of game time to take a 17-16 lead it would never relinquish.
About The Redhawks
The Redhawks put up 385 yards of total offense and were a perfect 3-for-3 on fourth down in the win over the Racers. Hosket was 19-for-44 for 257 yards with two touchdowns and an interception to lead Southeast Missouri, while his leading target was Tremane McCullough who caught nine passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. Roper Garrett led SEMO with nine tackles including 2.5 for a loss of eight yards and a sack of six yards.
The Longest Yards
In the third quarter, KD Humphries connected with Jesse Blackburn for an 81-yard completion that set up a 1-yard rush by Tyre Gray for a touchdown. The completion is the longest since at least 1995 eclipsing 80-yard passes from Dan Lloyd to Reggie Swinton against Austin Peay in 1997 and Stewart Childress to Terrence Tillman in 2000 against Tennessee State.
Big Play KD
Of his 341 total yards on Saturday, 215 of those yards came on just three plays. The 81-yard pass to Blackburn and two 67-yard passes to Demetric Johnson, who scored on the play, and Mareio McGraw. Humphries finished the night 22-of-33 with one touchdown and no interceptions.
Turnover Battle
For the first time this season, the Racers won the turnover battle coming up with two takeaways against the Redhawks, an interception and a fumble recovery. It also marks the first time this season that the Racers did not commit a turnover.
Defensive Progression
The Murray State defense limited SEMO to season lows for opponents in the game in total yards at 385 and rushing yards at 119. The 266 passing yards was also the second fewest allowed this season by the defense, while the 5.0 sacks and 9.0 tackles-for-loss were season highs for the Racers.
Defensive Heroes
Dylan Boone led the Murray State defense on the night with a game-high 10 tackles to go along with one interception and a pass breakup, while Jonathan Jackson and Lamont Crittendon followed with nine tackles. Crittendon had a sack for a loss of five yards, while Jackson had 1.0 tackles-for-loss for three yards, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups and a quarterback hurry. Zuri Elrington also racked up a game and career-high 2.0 sacks on the night, in addition to four tackles and a forced fumble.

Murray State will make the short drive to Clarksville for a meeting with rival, Austin Peay. Kickoff from Fortera Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m.
