The Racers saw their three-game win streak snapped Thursday in overtime at Austin Peay 84-81. A loss that stopped MSU's run of back-to-back road wins at Eastern Illinois and SIUE. The Racers have played three overtime games this season, all on the road and all a loss. The Racers have certainly been involved in close games, but they're trying to figure out a way to win more of them. Since a season opening win over Illinois State 73.70, the Racers have lost six-straight games where the winning margin was five points or less. The Racers have got to feel that the trend has to turn in their direction soon.
Murray State's Jonathan Stark was named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for a fifth time this season. The junior guard from Munford, Tennessee, was also named to the award in the first four weeks of the season. In games last week against EKU and APSU, Â Stark averaged 24 points per game, 2.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists. Many believe Stark is the top newcomer this season in the OVC and if he can keep his pace, Stark will become the 33rd Murray State player in program history to average 20 points per game or more and become the first since Cameron Payne did it in the 2014-15 season.
MSU's Terrell Miller, Jr., comes into the SEMO game with five double-doubles in the last six games and is a two-time OVC Newcomer of the Week. Miller has upped his season rebound average to 8.3 per game and has moved into the top-10 in the OVC.Â
The Racers enjoy one of the best home court advantages in the college game as they play their 19th season in the CFSB Center. MSU is 227-39 (.853) overall and 94-15 (.864) in OVC play. The Racers are 14-5 all-time in the CFSB Center all-time and have won the last three since a loss in 2013.
