The Murray State Racers host the Belmont Bruins Thursday in the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. The game will have an 8:05 p.m. tip on ESPNU with Dr. Jerry Punch and Mo Cassara calling the action as MSU takes on the undefeated Bruins. Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley, in his 26th season calling the action. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. The Racers (12-11, 6-3 OVC) are coming off a split week of home games at The Bank. The Racers lost last Thursday 75-74 to Southeast Missouri, but rallied to beat UT Martin Saturday 94-86. The game was MSU's highest against an NCAA D-I team this season and third this season of 90 or more points. MSU scored a 93-77 win over Green Bay (Nov. 19) and a 91-54 win over Alabama A&M (Nov. 26).
No team has been able to handle Belmont (16-4. 10-0) this season in the Ohio Valley Conference in the first 10 games of the 16 game league schedule. The Bruins played at home Monday and defeated SIUE 92-69 to stay undefeated in OVC play.
The Racers and Bruins meet for the seventh time since BU joined the OVC in 2013. In the prior six meetings, the Racers have won twice and both have come at home in the regular season in 2013 and 2015. MSU is 5-0 all-time at home against Belmont. In the short time they've been in the OVC, Belmont has broken the hearts of the Racers twice in the OVC Tournament championship game. In each instance (2013 and 2015) the Bruins hit shots with mere seconds remaining to beat the Racers.
Murray State is 18-6 at the CFSB Center in Coach Matt McMahon's two seasons with the Racers as they play their 19th season in the arena that opened in 1998. MSU has taken the great home court advantage they enjoyed for 48 seasons and have kept it going at The Bank. MSU is 228-40 (.853) all-time and 134-25 (.846) in OVC play.
Murray State's Jonathan Stark and Terrell Miller, Jr., form one of the top newcomer tandems in the game. With eight OVC Newcomer of the Week awards between them (Miller was the award winner this week for the third time) they're combining for 38.8 points per game in OVC games. Miller has eight double-doubles this season and Stark had one Saturday vs SEMO with 13 points and 10 assists.
