The Racers are coming off their first road win of the season Thursday in a 76-63 victory at Jacksonville State in what was a rare and amazing performance from the 3-point line. The Racers hit 13-of-18 (.722) from long range, marking just the third time since 1998 that a MSU team shot better than 70 percent in a single game. Terrell Miller and Jonathan Stark hit 11 of those threes as Miller had a career-high six. Miller scored a career-high 28 points and recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Stark scored 23 points as the leading scorer in the OVC upped his game scoring average to 21.1.
The Racers have eight games this season of 10-plus threes and lead the OVC with 152 3-pointers. The Racers are currently averaging 9.5 3-point baskets per game, far ahead of the team record that was set in the 2012-13 season when they made 7.8.
Tech won the only meeting with the Racers last season at MSU. The Racers have won six of the last seven games including the last five at the Eblen center since the last TTU win in 2009. The MSU-TTU series is the longest-running series the Racers have played with this being the 174th meeting.
Next week, MSU heads north to face OVC West Division opponents Eastern Illinois (Jan. 12) and SIUE (Jan. 14). The Racers come home (Jan. 19) to host Eastern Kentucky.
