Racers Take On SEMO In OVC Semifinals
10/30/2017 3:44:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Murray State takes on Southeast Missouri in the OVC semifinals on Friday, November 3 at 2 p.m.
Last Time On Racer Soccer…
The Murray State Racers came from behind on senior day to win 2-1 over SIU Edwardsville at Cutchin Field in Murray, Ky.
Three Years Of Dominance
In the last three years the Racers have not lost in the OVC regular season, going a perfect 10-0-0 in 2015, 7-0-3 in 2016 and 8-0-2 in 2017. After defeating SIUE 2-1, Murray State sees their regular season conference streak continue to 31-consecutive regular season games without a loss.
You Never Get Tired Of Home
This is the third straight year the Racers will host the OVC Tournament, as they have won the OVC regular season the past three years.
Who's Left
Along with the Racers, Southeast Missouri, Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee Tech will be featured in the semifinals of the OVC Tournament.
How Many Times Have We Been Here
This is the 13th OVC Tournament appearance for the Racers in their 18 years. Overall they are 8-10 and under Groves are 2-2.
Friday I'm In Love
This will be just the third time all year that the Racers have played on a Friday. The other two times saw Murray State victorious against opponents from the Sunbelt conference. Those wins were a 1-0 win at Troy on August 25 and a 4-3 overtime win against Little Rock on September 8 at Cutchin Field.
Where We Rank
The Racers are currently ranked at 29 in the RPI rankings after the week off.
Program Low (In a good way)
For the first time in program history, the Racers have let up less than 15 goals, with just 11 goals allowed this regular season.
Up And Coming
Rebecca Kubin has been responsible for the last three goals scored for Murray State. She currently has seven goal, three assist and 17 points.
Records Are Meant To Be Broken
Setting new records for game winning goals, career goals, and career point, you'd think there isn't too left for Harriet Withers to break. She is now just one goal away from tying the single season record of 13 goals set in 2004.
You Can't Go Through WallsÂ
Since letting up three goals to Little Rock on September 8, the Racers have allowed just four goals and recorded six of their seven shutouts in this span.
Better Late Than Never
19 of the 27 goals scored by the Racers this year have come in the second half or in overtime.
Know Thy Foe
Murray State will host the no. 5 seed Southeast Missouri Redhawks. SEMO took down no. 8 Austin Peay 2-1 on Friday, October 27 before defeating no. 4 Belmont  in penalty kicks.
Overall, the Redhawks stand at 8-7-4 overall and 4-3-3 in the OVC. They are led by Esmie Gonzales, who has scored eight goals along with three assists to give her a team leading 19 points. Gonzales is the only Redhawk to be in the double digit range for points. Kindra Lierz has seen the bulk of the action this year in net, with 17 games played and 16 starts, she's played 1471:59 minutes while letting up 17 goals, making 69 saves and has a GAA of 1.04 and a save percentage of .802.
Last Time They Met
The last time the Racers faced the Redhawks was earlier this year on September 28, where the Racers came away with a 1-0 victory. Harriet Withers took a shot from the top of the box, sending it into the top right corner at the 17th minute mark for the lone goal of the game. With her then 10th of the year, Withers broke the all-time career goal record.
All Time Record
The Racers are now 9-11-1 all-time against SEMO, winning three out of the last four appearances. Murray State is 6-5-0 at Cutchin Field against the Redhawks.
Who's Next?
A win against SEMO and the Racers will play the winner of the Tennessee Tech vs. Eastern Kentucky in the OVC championship game.
