Brimlett Breaks Hurdles Record At Music City Challenge

The Murray State women's track and field team opened their season with the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
"Overall we set 15 PR's and a new school record. The freshman stepped up and everyone showed that the training has paid off," said head coach Adam Kiesler after the Music City Challenge.
Sprints
Three Racers finished in the top-10 in the 60m hurdles, as Jabreuna Brimlett made a first place splash with a time of 8.41, and set a new school record in the process.The previous record was 8.44, and was set by Sharda Bettis in 2013. Antoinetta Avant came in fourth with a time of 8.73 and Taylor McCammon placed seventh with a time of 8.81.
Tamdra Lawrence set the pace for the 200m race, coming in third and finishing with a time of 24.63. Daijah White was next up with an 18th place finish and a time of 25.44.
Middle Distance
Hilary McAdam placed eight for Murray State in the 400m race with a PR of 57.47. D'Myia Thornton was next up with an 18th place finish with a time of 58.83 and Dontavia Howard finished off the list of Racers with a 45th place finish for a time of 1:04.35
Long Distance
In the 800m race, Aubrey Main placed highest for Murray State with a time of 2.29.21, for a 16th place finish. Norma Abdur-Rafia came in 22nd with a time of 2.34.86

Field Events
Aubrey Main led the way with a third place finish in the high jump, setting a PR as well with a 1.63m finish, and Hope Tewes finished with a 1.53m jump to round out the event.
In weight throw, Destiny Carey came in ninth overall with a throw of 13.92m. Christina Meinhardt finished 14th overall with a throw of 13.17m and Rachel Gootee set a PR of 11.83m.
For the long jump event, Jabreuna Brimlett came away with a second place finish with a mark of 5.75m. Alison Woerner finished fourth overall with a PR of 5.61m.
The shot put saw Destiny Carey and Jewel Wagner finish eighth and ninth respectively. Carey had a mark of 11.98m while Wagner had a mark of 11.94m.Â

The Racers has their "A" and "C" relay teams race, with squad "A" posting the fifth best time of 3.55.94 and squad "C" posting the ninth best time of 4.03.23

Murray State travels to Purdue University to kick off the New Year on Saturday, January 13 as they participate in the Fred Wilt Open.
