Moore Helps Lead Racers to Win in Season Opener

Kipp Moore blasted a leadoff home run to left center field and the Racers didn't look back as they kicked off the 2017 season with a 5-1 victory over Hofstra on Saturday in Hammond, La., in the first game of the Tangi Tourism Baseball Classic hosted by Southeastern Lousiana.
Moore provided much of Murray State's offense in the win as he went 3-for-4 with a run scored, a double and two RBIs in the win. Adam Bauer, Jaron Robinson and Ramsey Scott each added an RBI on the day.
Trevor McMurray picked up the win and had a solid first outing in his first career start. McMurray pitched six innings and allowed just one run off five hits and struck-out four Pride batters. MSU used all freshmen from its pitching staff in the win as Luke Brown, Tyler Horsley and Alec Whaley all pitched in relief.
After Moore's homer in the bottom of the first made it 1-0, a double from Moore that scored Aaron Bence in the third inning pushed the Racers out to a 2-0 lead. Hofstra got on the board in the sixth with a solo homer to left center to make it 2-1. However, the Racers responded with their best inning of the game in the sixth with a three-run inning to push the cushion to 5-1.
A leadoff walk from Tyler Lawrence started the inning and was followed by an RBI double from Scott. Three batters later and with two outs, Bauer delivered a bloop single to center field to score Scott and make it 4-1. Bauer would later score on a double from Robinson to right center.
MSU collected eight hits on the day, three of which went for extra bases while Hofstra had seven hits. The Pride also left nine stranded on the base paths while MSU left five on.
The Racers return to action Saturday in a 1 p.m., contest at Alumni Field as they take on 13th-ranked Louisiana.
