Racers' Senior Night Spoiled By Visiting Panthers

The Murray State Racers dropped the final regular season home game Saturday 82-65 to the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Senior Day at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
The loss put the Racers (14-14) into a three-way tie for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference's West Division. MSU is now set up for a big week of games when they play the teams they're tied with. MSU travels to play at SEMO on Thursday and UT Martin Saturday (Feb. 25). On the line is the No. 2 seed in the OVC Tournament.
Terrell Miller led the Racers with his 10th double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Jonathan Stark had 18 points and Bryce Jones 11 points.
First Half
Gee McGhee got the start on Senior Day in place of Brion Sanchious. The other starters were: seniors Jones and , Croaker and juniors Miller and Stark.
Stark hit three-straight 3-point baskets to give MSU a 19-14 lead at 10:43. He hit his first four shots from the field.
EIU's Terrell Lewis hit back-to-back 3-pointers to finish 10-2 Panthers run for a 24-21 lead at 8:39.
The Racers trailed by as many as 13 in the first half when it was 42-29 EIU with 5:15 left.
MSU held EIU to only one basket in the last three minutes, but only hit 2-of-9 to finish the half.
EIU led 45-31 at the intermission.
Second Half
The Racers started the second half with a 7-0 run to cut the EIU lead to 45-38 with 18:05 left.
Gee McGhee hit his first 3-pointer of the game to cut it to 50-42 EIU lead with 15:25 left.
Demetrius McReynolds hit back to back 3-pointers to put the Racers down 58-43 with 13:20 left. McReynolds scored 25 points in the game on 7-of-11 from the 3-point line.
The Racers dug in on defense and got several stops when they held EIU to no field goals in a span of 4:07, but MSU couldn't get the game under a 10-point deficit. Brion Sanchious got a putback to make it a 61-51 game at 8:25.
McReynolds hit another pair of 3-pointers to make it a 67-51 game with 7:36 left.

MSU is 1-4 in OVC play when trailing at half.
The Racers finish the regular season home schedule at 10-4.
MSU had won the last five at home since a loss in 2011.
MSU is now 24-3 all-time at home against EIU. The Panther's wins have come in 2002, 2011 and 2017.
With an 8-6 OVC record, the Racers must win both games next week to extend their streak of 13 consecutive seasons with 10-plus wins.
With 11 points tonight, Bryce Jones has 725 in his MSU career. It ranks him 15th on the MSU all-time scoring list among two-year players. The 14th ranked player is Maurice Cannon (1991-93) with 728 points.
With 18 points tonight, Jonathan Stark has 594 this season. He has moved into 22nd place on the MSU all-time single season scoring list with the Racers all-time scorer Jeff Martin (1986-87). The great late Bennie Purcell is 21st on the list with 600 points in the 1951-52 season.
