The Murray State Racers (14-14, 8-6 OVC) face their biggest week of the season which happens to be the final week of the regular season.
In a three-way dead heat for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference West Division at 8-6, the leading actors in this play will face each other this week. The Racers, Southeast Missouri and UT Martin are all tied for first place. The supporting actor and possible spoiler is Austin Peay, a team desperate to qualify for next week's OVC Tournament in Nashville.
The first act of this late February drama is Thursday. The Racers play at SEMO (13-16, 8-6 OVC) at 6:30 p.m., while UTM hosts APSU at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the combatants flip with the Racers traveling to UTM and APSU playing at SEMO. One team will emerge as the OVC West champion and earn the No. 2 seed in the OVC Tournament. The quest for the Racers is simple. Win both games and MSU is the division champ.
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley, in his 26th season calling the action. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. Two impressive streaks for the MSU program remain unfulfilled. MSU Â has a run of 29-straight consecutive winning seasons and 13 straight OVC seasons of 10-plus wins on the line.
The Racers lost Saturday at home to Eastern Illinois 82-65 on Senior Day when the Racers honored the trip of Damarcus Croaker, Bryce Jones and Gee McGhee.Â
In the first meeting this season with SEMO (Jan. 26), the Racers lost a close game 75-74. MSU has won their last two games at the Show Me Center since a 2014 double overtime loss there in 2014.Â
Jonathan Stark is the OVC Newcomer of the Week for the seventh time. He ties the OVC record that is shared by MSU's Jarvis Williams and SEMO's Jarekious Bradley each from 2013-14 and JSU's Trenton Marshall (2009-10).
