The Murray State women's track and field squad competes Friday and Saturday at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Charleston, Illinois.

The event, hosted by Eastern Illinois University, will be held at Lantz Field House.

As a springboard into the outdoor season, this championship event provides the Racers a big opportunity to compete at a high level.

"We are definitely excited for the championship this weekend," said Racer coach Jenny Swieton, whose teams have posted 17 top-10 times or distances this winter among OVC teams. "We have been steadily progressing and I am excited to see what the weekend will bring. This weekend is just the first step for us toward our goals for the year and I can't wait to see how the team steps up and performs up at EIU."

There are many Racer student-athletes that have produced some of the best efforts in the league during this indoor season.

Tamdra Lawrence has the second-fastest time in the OVC 200 meter dash (24.32 seconds) and the fourth time in the 60 meter dash (7.58). Norman Abdur-Rafia has the third fastest 200 meter time (24.34) and the fourth 400 meter time (56.48).

MSU's multi-talented Jabreuna Brimlett has performed well in the Pentathlon as she has the second-best score this winter in the OVC. Her teammates Taylor McCammon and Aubrey Main have the fourth and fifth top scores in the league.

The Racers might be in a spot to score in the 4x400 meter relay. The quartet of Lawrence, Abdur-Rafia, Anna Curlin and Jocelyn Payne have the OVC's third-fastest time of 3:50.48.

The action-packed two-day event will begin at 8 a.m. Friday, with the Pentathlon continuing throughout the day at EIU. The field events are also center stage on the opening day in the morning with many events holding prelims in the afternoon and evening. Saturday's final day begins at 9 a.m.
