Racers' Solid Play Nets Good Finish At Kiawah Island

The Murray State women's golf team saved their best for last when they fired a final round 2-under-par 286 to get a share of seventh place at the Edwin Watts-Kiawah Island Classic in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

The Racers posted team scores of 302-296-286=885 to finish tied with Elon and two shots from sixth place Charleston Southern at 882.

Linette Holmslykke shot the Racers best score of the event in the final round with a 4-under-par 68 to get a share of eighth place on rounds of 70-77-68=215.

Other MSU finishes included Moa Folke, who had a pair of under-par rounds, placing 11th on scores of 74-71-71=216, while Lucila Puente Rodriguez placed 13th on rounds of 76-69-72=217. Anna Moore had scores of 82-80-75=237 to place 137th and Sydney Kelley finished 192nd after scores of 86-82-78=246.

MSU's Jane Watts finished in a tie for first among the 17 individuals and was 66th overall after scores of 75-77-76=228.

Coastal Carolina was the winner with an 870, with host College of Charleston (871), Southern Mississippi (873),
East Tennessee State (878) and Charleston Southern (880) making up the top-5. The Racers competed with fellow Ohio Valley Conference members Jacksonville State who finished 19th and Tennessee Tech who finished 27th in the field of 43 teams.

Laura Fuenfstueck from the College of Charleston was the medalist with scores of 70-68-70=208.

Paula Vega of Jacksonville State made the lone hole-in-one of the tournament on the par-3, 11th at Osprey Point.

The 54-hole event was played at the Osprey Point Course (5,964 yards) and Oak Point Course (5,941 yards). Each course played to a par of 72.

Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2017 edition of the Edwin Watts-Kiawah Island Spring Classic has expanded to 43 teams in this year's field.
